Developed in New Zealand using the highest quality merino available, Nuyarn® is a new technology for how wool clothing is made. Instead of twisting wool fibers into a tight rope the way ordinary wool yarn is spun, Nuyarn® drafts them, untwisted, around a high-performance filament. The wool keeps its natural loft, stretch, and air space. And because the wool's performance is realized from how the yarn is spun, not a chemical finish, it never washes out. The elastane problem
Most performance shirts get their stretch from spandex, Lycra®, or elastane. Those fibers hold up to 2.5x their weight in moisture and have no drying properties of their own. A shirt with these materials soaks up sweat and keeps it. These materials also break down with UV exposure and washing, which is why stretched-out, saggy gear exists. Nuyarn®’s stretch is mechanical. It comes from the wool’s natural crimp, freed by twist-free spinning, and it holds its shape and elasticity for the life of the product.
No twist means no twisted seams
Ring-spun yarn holds constant torque from twisting, a defect called spirality. Wash a ring-spun shirt enough and the fabric rotates, and the seams spiral around your body. Nuyarn® has no twist, so there’s no stored torque. Seams stay where they were sewn, wash after wash.
No knots means no holes
In traditional ring spinning, yarns break and get knotted back together during production. Every knot is a weak point, and those weak points become the holes you find after laundering. Nuyarn® drafts continuous fibers along a performance filament. No knots, no built-in weak points, no mystery holes after the first or second time you wash it.
